Phase 1 of South Australia’s regional autonomous vehicle trial launched yesterday in Renmark, providing a new transport service to the community.

The vehicle has been named ‘Murray’ following a competition run by the local council, with the wrap designed by Kelsey Wade.

The 4.5km Renmark trial includes a world first removable custom-built smart traffic control signal, ensuring the safe travel of the vehicle through the intersection of Ral Ral Avenue and Thurk Stret.

Free morning and afternoon services will run approximately every hour on weekdays, carrying six passengers. Book a ride and view the route and timetable at www.renmark.rideswithsage.com or phone 8586 1040.

The trial is a joint project between the Departement of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure of South Australia, Renmark Paringa CouncilFlinders UniversityEasyMile and SAGE Automation.
