An autonomous tow tractor in service at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport since 2022 has recently progressed to full L4 autonomous driving (no human on board) along an extended route, allowing for more complex use. The distance covered by the vehicle has increased from 800m to 2km, and functionality has grown to include studying baggage tracks and optimizing trajectories and maneuvers. The new route also adds challenges like narrow trajectories in the indoor area, also known as the luggage gallery, and more interactions with other traffic. Similar solutions are in service at Narita International in Japan and in a fleet at Changi Airport in Singapore. They also operate in several major automotive manufacturing plants and logistics centers in Europe and the USA, including the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing and Daimler Truck AG in Germany. ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle International recently caught up with our EZTow’s deployment project manager, Marion Ferré, to find out more.
