EasyMile powers 120 daily autonomous missions at Lufthansa Cargo Frankfurt

Frankfurt, 7 April 2026– EZTow has been operating at Frankfurt Airport for over 1 year and driven more than 20,000kms autonomously. The milestone deployment marks a significant step forward in accelerating automation, improving operational efficiency, and enabling next-generation cargo handling—in one of Europe’s largest and most complex air cargo operations.

As part of Lufthansa Cargo’s strategic modernization program, two EZTow vehicles are fully integrated into daily operations, running continuously across indoor and outdoor environments. The vehicles autonomously navigate through gates and operate safely alongside mixed traffic, including ground vehicles and pedestrians.

“This deployment is a showcase of what’s possible when innovation meets execution, pairing a forward-looking customer with an autonomy partner that knows how to deliver in complex, real-world environments” said Richard Reno, CEO of TractEasy. “With Lufthansa Cargo, we are demonstrating how autonomy can deliver immediate operational value while laying the foundation for the future of air cargo.”

TractEasy supplies, deploys and supports the EZTow, which is driven exclusively by EasyMile's autonomous software.

Proven performance in a high-complexity environment

Operating at Lufthansa Cargo’s Frankfurt hub requires navigating one of the most demanding intralogistics environments in Europe. The site features dense, dynamic traffic flows, with a constant mix of other, heavy-duty vehicles, and pedestrian movement.

Selected after rigorous evaluation, the technology met stringent European regulatory requirements while delivering the robustness and safety needed for real-world deployment at scale.

Thomas Rohrmeier, Head of Handling Frankfurt at Lufthansa Cargo:

“We are sending a strong signal about the future of our logistics processes at Lufthansa Cargo with autonomous tug vehicles. Their successful implementation demonstrates how consistently we are driving technological innovation. We modernize our infrastructure and make our operations ever more efficient. Autonomous transport is already a reality for us today. It is fast becoming a key component in strengthening our hub in Frankfurt over the long term and reducing the workload on our employees in a meaningful way.”

24/7 operations delivering measurable impact

The EZTow vehicles operate around the clock, each covering approximately 2,000 kilometers per month. On peak days, the system executes up to 120 autonomous missions.

This high use underscores the maturity of the autonomous platform and its readiness for large-scale industrial deployment.

Enabling workforce transformation

By automating repetitive towing operations, the solution helps address industry-wide workforce challenges, including labor shortages and rising operational costs. Teams can be redeployed to higher-value tasks, enhancing both productivity and job quality.

“Autonomy is a force multiplier,” added Richard Reno, CEO, TractEasy. “We enable our customers to focus on what matters most, while ensuring critical transport operations run safely, efficiently, and without interruption.”

Seamless integration, immediate value

A key differentiator of the deployment has been the seamless integration of autonomous vehicles into Lufthansa Cargo’s live operations. With no disruption to existing workflows, the EZTow system quickly proved its reliability and adaptability in a complex, real-world setting.

“This deployment shows that autonomy doesn’t have to be disruptive to be transformative,” said Richard Reno, CEO, TractEasy. “We integrate into existing operations and deliver value from day one.”

Building the future of air cargo

The Frankfurt deployment highlights EasyMile’s mission to bring safe, scalable autonomy to logistics hubs worldwide. By combining advanced technology with deep operational integration, the solution is enabling industry leaders like Lufthansa Cargo to build more resilient, efficient, and future-ready supply chains.

It is the most widely-deployed autonomous towing solution globally. Other major operational references powered by EasyMile include a fleet with dnata, Munich Airport, the first Level 4 operations in Japan at Narita International Airport and industrial customers such as BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, Daimler Truck AG, John Deere and Bosch.
